Golden Sunflower
When cultural identity moves from symbol to structure
Golden Sunflower asks how a national automobile brand can work with cultural history without turning it into applied decoration. The portfolio moves from Hongqi's luxury lineage and architectural references toward a long grand-tourer, a layered cabin and a physical model.
The Question Behind the Work
A national design language cannot depend on recognition of a motif alone.
Hongqi carries industrial history, state ceremony and changing ideas of Chinese luxury. Designing within that lineage means working with expectations that existed before the first sketch: visual authority, continuity and public recognition.
The project becomes most interesting when it shifts the question from how a car should look Chinese to how cultural ideas might alter proportion, sequence and experience. The editorial test is simple: if the motif is removed, does the design still carry the same attitude?
Following the Research
Following a line from brand memory to architectural order
The visible research moves through three scales: an existing automotive lineage, spatial references from architecture and gardens, and the translation of those references into vehicle form.
A Luxury Lineage
The Golden Sunflower range is assembled as a visual family. Upright grilles, strong center lines, long bodies and formal stance reveal how ceremonial identity has been carried from one vehicle to another.
Architecture as Spatial Evidence
Courtyards, framed views, bamboo gardens, roof lines and contemporary interiors appear as references. Their value lies less in their silhouette than in how they organize approach, threshold, enclosure and a view outward.
From Principle to Vehicle Form
Exterior studies repeatedly test the relation between a long horizontal body and a dominant vertical grille. The sketches show a search for a formal front that remains contemporary rather than reproducing a historical object.
From an Idea to a Form
How can spatial order become an automotive experience?
The 5,520 mm package gives the concept an extended ceremonial proportion while still locating occupants, wheels and cabin within a credible vehicle envelope. Seat studies draw on the poised geometry of Chinese furniture rather than copying a decorative pattern.
Inside, a broad glass canopy, landscape-like layers and a parking mode directed toward nature turn the architectural references into a sequence of use. These are concept-stage propositions: the portfolio documents packaging and experience, but not aerodynamic or manufacturing validation.
If cultural identity disappears with the motif, it has not yet become form.
The Work
Why It Matters
Why this project matters
Golden Sunflower matters because it treats national identity as a design responsibility rather than a visual shortcut. Its strongest contribution is the attempt to move culture into proportion, spatial sequence and behavior. A fuller research edition should next identify the precise historical vehicles and architectural sources, show rejected symbolic directions, and separate concept intent from engineering proof.
